"Whispers"
How does Bergama appear from Berlin and Berlin from Bergama? Can a cure to today's massive diseases be found in the tunnels and roads of the first psychotherapy centre in the history of mankind? What can the sound of water whisper from the depths?

Departing from the interconnected stories of two cities and the remainings of Asklepion, gastkollektiv creates performative responses to these questions.

is a performative product of gastkollektiv, and gastkollektiv took shape during cooking the "Halwa". Artists, activists and researchers from Iran, Turkey and Germany (amongst others) met in Berlin in 2015 with the idea of a collective playwriting project.

During the process some left, some others joined, and the time being together constituted the collective, as it gave shape to our friendships. The current result of this whole process finds an expression in our new name, gastkollektiv: an attempt to highlight the continuities in migration, vagrant artistic production conditions and an invitation to be our guests.

"Unser Täglich Halwa" is the result of a collective playwriting, dramaturgy and directing process which was the founding project of gastkollektiv. The play aims to develop a taste of everyday lives, which are affected by migration and loneliness, a precarious existence and the ills of individualism, adding something sweet to that mixture.

Ingredients include: a group of artists and researchers, eight "Berliner" on stage - some living next to us, some at a distance from us and others in our imagination only - like the mad cat-woman, the "Späti" guy or the Istanbuler. They will be flirting in a bus, experimenting with valerian, meeting each other in a shop or rehearsing for the German citizenship test. The loose texture of their encounters consists of halay dance, clowning, rhythmics of working time, or national flags waving over them.

Our own situation as artists, activists and researchers from Turkey, Iran, Germany, Russia and Sweden (amongst others) is closely related to this performance project. Some years ago in a café at Taksim square in Istanbul, some of us decided to move to Berlin and to start a theatre collective. Some of the companions who joined us in Berlin lingered at the doorstep, watching for a while and disappearing thereafter. Others stayed and we became friends.

All of them, be it by their different legal status, their way of dealing with solitude or their secrets and obsessions, have contributed to the performance "Unser täglich Halwa", which is the first time for gastkollektiv to present the outcome of the project on stage.

In a collective writing and directing process, personas have emerged out of autobiographical elements and researches, embodying individual characters with specific features, but also representing a stereotype, a superordinate category, which the individual can – actually or apparently – be assigned to.

Within this process of identification, our interest is focused on social positionings and the deviations from this norm. As different as the personas developed from that might be, they have something in common: their lives are marked by migration and singleness, a precarious existence and the ills of individualism. Can a collective act provide the bitter ingredients of that daily life with the taste of something sweet?
